In order to participate in a challenge you must either create a team or join an existing one. You cannot participate without a team. If you want to participate alone, create a new team and close it to join requests.
In order to create a team, first you have to sign in to the platform. You can use your Google or Github accounts for an easy, fast and secure sign in experience. You can, however, use your email to receive a sign in link. Once you are signed in, go to a challenge and click the JOIN button. A popup will appear with two options: join a team or create a team. If you want to join a team, select the team from the dropdown menu and click the join button. An email will be sent to the team leader with the request. You will be notified when they accept (or reject) your candidature. If you prefer to create a new team, clcik instead on the CREATE button, choose a name and a description and click the save button. You will have to accept the terms and conditions in any case.
If you decide to participate in a challenge joining an existing team, you have two options. The first one is already explained in the previous FAQ. The second one is to browse the participating teams in the teams section of the challenge and click on the JOIN TEAM button. Notice that some teams may be open to new members, while other can be closed.
If you want to join a team but you don't know the other members, the FORUM is the best place to look for teammates. You will find a Looking for a Team? topic on every challenge, so use it to present yourself and find the perfect fit.
If you want to leave your team, go to your profile and find the challenges section. From there, you can manage your teams and leave a competition. Note that your team and submissions will not be deleted and will still appear on the leaderboar, even if you are the only member. If your team has multiple members and you are your team leader, you will have to grant the leadership role to another member before leaving the team.
Once you leave a challenge, you will be able to join again with another team. However, this will not reset your submission rate and, if applicable, will affect also to your new team members.
What is the role of the team leader ?
The team leader has the following roles:
- Submissions: only the leader of a team can make submissions, the rest of the members will get an error if they try to submit.
- Manage members: only the team leader can accept or remove members for its team.
- Support messages: only the team leader will receive notifications from the support team in case it is necessary.
A team leader can always assign the leader role to any other member of the team.
Go to your profile and find the challenges section. From there, you can manage your teams, leave a competition and (if you are the team leader) grant the leadership role to another member.
In order to accept new members to a team, go to the notifications section. From there, you will be able to accept (or decline) any team joining request from other users.
Once you join a challenge (by either creating or joining a team) you will see a SUBMISSIONS button on the challenge page. Click the button to go to the submissions section. From there, you will be able to make new submissions and to see all your team's past submissions with the corresponding scores.
Note that only team leaders can make submissions in behalf of their team. Some challenges may also have a submission rate that will prevent from making multiple submissions in short periods of time. If your submission is failed, this limitation does not apply.
In case that your submissions are failing, the most probable cause is that you are not following the required submission format. Read closely the Data section of the challenge and check that your submissions are correct.
If you are sure that your submissions are correct and still experience failed submissions, please contact the support team at support@ai4eo.eu and we will take a closer look at the issue.
When you make a submission there is a short period of time while our servers are evaluating it. During this time, your evaluation will appear as pending. In case that your submission evaluation process takes longer than expected, please contact as at support@ai4eo.eu and we will take a closer look at the issue.
Once a submission is evaluated, a score is assigned to it. This score is divided in public and private scores, the first one evaluated on a small subset of the test data and the second one evaluated on the rest. The data splits are hidden to the participants. If your public score beats your current score on the leaderboard, then your entry will be replaced with the new submission. If you get a worse score, however, the leaderboard will not be updated. Once the challenge ends, the private scores are revealed and the final leaderboard is computed. Note that your best public score may not be your best public score, so make your submissions wisely.
